What is Middling in Sports Betting?

Understand middling: taking opposite sides at different lines to create a window where both bets can win.

Definition

Middling means holding opposite positions at different lines so that a range of results can make both bets win.

Simple example

You back over 2.5 goals early, then later take under 3.5. Exactly three goals wins both bets; other totals usually leave one win and one loss.

How the middle appears

A line move creates the gap. Bettors may take the second side to reduce risk or deliberately target the probability that the result lands inside the middle.

Costs and risks

Outside the middle, bookmaker margin can produce a small net loss. Push rules, Asian quarter lines and different settlement terms must be calculated carefully.
